A 56-year-old farmer, identified as Mufutau Babarinde, has been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Konko village, Ayete, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It was gathered that Babarinde, an indigene of Tapa, in Ibarapa North Local Government, was attacked at Orita Meta area in Ayete around 7pm on Wednesday, on his way home from his farm.
Confirming the incident, the Secretary of Farmers (Akowe Agbe) in Ibarapa North Local Government Area, Mr Taiwo Adeagbo, said the farmer died as a result of machete cuts on his body.
He added that that the deceased suffered serious deep machete cuts on his back and hands while his right leg severed from his body.
Adeagbo said the victim bled to death as a result of the deep injuries inflicted on him and the inability of anyone to come to his rescue after the attack.
He stated that the assailants are at large, adding that investigation is still ongoing on the matter.
Efforts to get the reaction of the Oyo State Police Command proved abortive as the phone lines of the police spokesperson in the state were switched off.
