The Caretaker Chairman of Itesiwaju Local Government of Oyo State, Hon. Adeniyi Adeagbo, has felicitated with teachers on today’s occasion of Teacher’s Day.
“Teachers are the guides who play an important role in transforming our students into responsible citizens”, he said in a statement. “Their contributions are not only limited to schools but extends to the larger society. Thus, after parents, teachers should receive the due respect”.
He added: “As you (the teachers) are being globally celebrated today, I am honesty charging you to continue to teach our students more carefully and sincerely and love them as your own children.
The Local Government boss also commended the Oyo State Governor, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, for giving three scholarship slots to each of the local councils in the state and for approving the construction of about 125km local roads.
Adeagbo who addressed journalists earlier in the day after a meeting between the governor and the caretaker chairmen, disclosed that the Oyo State Government had given three scholarship slots to each of the LGAs and LCDAs into the newly-established state-owned Technical University, which is scheduled to commence academic activities later this month.
He said:“We are sincerely happy with the goodwill of Oyo State Government for giving each council area the ample opportunity to recommend three genuinely indigent students for scholarships into the Technical University. The university is fee-paying and fully residential; certainly later this month, it will take off with two faculties – Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. It will also have a Centre for Language and General Studies as well as Centre for Entrepreneurial and Vocational Studies.”
“The establishment of a technical university is a welcome development especially in technologically under-developed countries like Nigeria. Gov. Abiola Ajimobi has successfully made another history by establishing Nigeria’s and, undeniably, West and Central Africa’s first technical university, the Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, could not have come any other time other than now. Mr. Governor must be commended for giving a critical tool of empowerment for Africans; Tech-U Ibadan is a product of structured and strategic thinking of the present administration in Oyo State. With this latest giant stride, we are confidently the pacesetter in every good thing.”
Adeagbo further said that Gov. Ajimobi in his bid to consolidate on his administration’s infrastructural renewal drive, has approved the construction of 125km local government roads.
He said that the choices of the roads to be constructed were made by the local governments in line with the demands of our people. We selected key roads that would have economic impact on our people.”
He urged the people of the state to continue to cooperate and support the present administration and desist from all forms of anti-government and criminal activities that may undermine the progress of Governor Ajimobi’s administration.
