Telegram, a unicorn global messaging app, with over 700 million monthly active users as claimed by the founder in June 2022, is auctioning many usernames, including those of the Nigerian government, agencies, corporations, and celebrities.

In October 2022, Telegram launched the ability to buy usernames on a dedicated platform – Fragment. On the platform, auctions for the most valuable usernames are listed fairly and transparently.

The messaging app has grown in leaps and bounds in recent years, developing a wide capacity for many functions that are unavailable on other social media platforms.

According to Statista, Telegram has over five million downloads in Nigeria in 2022, and the number is growing monthly, while Egypt leads in Africa with over 11 million downloads.

With its numerous enticing features, Telegram users see it as a perfect replacement for WhatsApp.

Telegram is known for its fast speed, high level of security, and features such as end-to-end encryption and the ability to create large group chats.

Some of the best features of Telegram include:

  • End-to-end encryption: It uses end-to-end encryption to secure all messages and calls, and can only be accessed by the sender and recipient.
  •  Large group chats: Telegram allows users to create large group chats with up to 200,000 members, making it a useful tool for organizing and communicating with large groups of people.
  •  Customization options: Telegram allows users to customize their experience with a variety of options, including themes, stickers, and animated emojis.
  •  File sharing: Telegram allows users to share a wide range of large files, including photos, videos, documents, and music.
  •  Secret chats: Telegram offers a feature called “secret chats” that allows users to set a self-destruct timer for their messages, ensuring that they are deleted after a certain amount of time has passed.
  •  Cloud storage: Telegram allows users to store their messages and files in the cloud, making it easy to access them from any device.
  •  Bot integration: It offers a powerful API and extensive documentation for developers, making it easy to create and integrate bots into the app.
  •  Cross-platform compatibility: Telegram is available on a wide range of platforms, including iOS, Android, and desktop, making it easy to use on any device.

Commenting on the new development, Telegram founder, Pavel Durov, wrote on his Telegram channel:

Finally, people will have ownership over their social media addresses, secured in the immutable ledger of a decentralized blockchain network.

Pavel Durov, wrote on his Telegram channel

As for the auctioned usernames, Telegram utilises TON blockchain smart contracts to secure Telegram username ownership and to create a platform where username holders could transfer them to interested parties in protected deals – with ownership secured on the blockchain via NFT-like smart contracts.

The usernames can be attached to Telegram channels, groups, and personal profiles.

Channel: Telegram channels can be used for a variety of purposes, including broadcasting news, sharing information and updates, or promoting products and services. They are a popular way for individuals, governments, and organisations to communicate with large groups of people in a convenient and efficient manner.

Below are some of the most suitable Telegram usernames for Nigerian state governments, businesses, organisations, and celebrities listed on Fragment for auction and their respective prices in TON.

Anyone with TON can easily buy and resell these usernames.
