There is palpable apprehension in Iseyin town, in Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, as operatives of Nigeria Customs service reportedly killed four persons in the town.
Another person was fatally injured in the incident that happened on Thursday afternoon.
It was gathered that the customs personnel started shooting sporadically after intercepting smuggled goods that came into the town through the boarders.
Some of those hit by stray bullets were residents of the town who were out to enjoy the sallah celebration.
The development has caused pandemonium in the town as family and friends of those affected have embarked on a protest.
Recall that indiscriminate shooting by the operatives of Nigeria Customs Service recently led to a face-off between them and members of the proscribed Nigerian Union of Transport Workers (NURTW), after the Chairman of the union in Iseyin was killed by a shot fired by one of the Customs officers.
