At least three people have been confirmed dead in the 21-storey building that collapsed on Gerald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State,on Monday.
Four person have also been rescued whul several others remain trapped under the rubble.
Rescue operation is currently ongoing, with a team comprising the military, police and related authorities cordoning off the area to keep out a rowdy crowd that had impeded the work of emergency workers and first responders.
The building, which had been under cconstructio for about two years collapsed on Sunday afternoon, causing pandemonium in the area as the loud noise from the collapsed structure forced people to scamper for safety.
Among the casualties, according to sources, is the owner of the structure and one of Nigeria’s celebrated developers, Mr Femi Osibona.
Osibona, the Managing Director of Fourscore Heights Limited, was the brain behind 360 Degrees Towers in Ikoyi. He was reportedly on a visit to the site of the building when it collapsed.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) is currently leading rescue operations at the site of the incident.
The Director-General /Chief Executive Officer of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said rescue operation is being carried out by personnel of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), LASEMA and medics from the state Alambulance service (LASEMBUS).
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, is currently coordinating activities of emergency responders to forestall break down of law and order.
