Not fewer than 3 million refugees are in the African continent because of crises in South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, Nigeria and the Central African Republic (CAR), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ (UNHCR) Senior Regional External Relations Officer, Tina Ghelli has said.
It was gathered that a record of 60 million people are displaced worldwide, the highest number ever reported in one year.
According to the UN Refugee Agency’s annual Global Trends Report, the conflict in Syria is the biggest single cause of displacement.
Speaking on AM Live, Ghelli says the reason people flee their homes in numbers is because of wars, conflict, individual persecution based on their race, religion, nationality and membership in a particular social group.
