Thugs have reportedly attacked the senator representing Gombe Central and former governor of the state, Danjuma Goje.
The senator’s vehicle was pelted with dangerous weapons on Friday morning while making his way into the state capital.
A statement by Lilian Nworie, an aide of the senator, said Goje, who is in the state for a personal engagement, was prevented from getting into the city after the hoodlums set bonfires.
Nworie said the incident occurred around the International Conference Centre located on Bauchi-Gombe road.
The aide alleged that the thugs are loyal to incumbent governor of the state, Inuwa Yahaya, adding that police officers stationed in the area did not make any effort to stop the chaos.
Yahaya and Goje are said to be at loggerheads over the control of the state and their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
