President Bola Tinubu has approved the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, to international status.
Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, disclosed this while receiving the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, who paid the governor a courtesy visit at his office in Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
According to Makinde, the approval follows his request to the Federal Government in a bid to change the status of the Ibadan facility to a global status.
The governor assured that work would commence on the project as soon as the presidency approves all the necessary and required documentation.
He solicited the input of personnel of the Nigerian Airforce in the state in order to ensure that the airport meets the required operating standards.
Earlier in his remark, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar urged Makinde to expedite action on the ongoing 10 kilometers Ajia-Airport road to ease movement of personnel who are already relocating to the Air Force base.
He also appealed for compensation for the residents of Ajia Air Force base in order not to hinder performance and activities of the officers.
The Chief of Air Staff was in Ibadan as part of his ongoing nationwide tour of Air Force formations across the country.
