The psidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has mocked his opponents in the 2023 presidential election over their delay to nominate their “permanent” running mates within the time-frame stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A statement by the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation on Monday said the presidency does not need someone who hesitate to make decision in picking his running mate.
The candidates vying for the office of the President in the 2023 election include former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwas; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, among others.
In the statement, Atiku chide the opposition candidates, especially Tinubu, Kwankwaso and Obi over what he described as lack of clarity and inability to make decisions at a critical time to pick their permanent running mates.
He said picking running mates by candidates vying for any big office like the presidency is very important in a democracy.
“The office of the presidency needs someone who has the clarity to make decisions without hesitation.
“In developed democratic countries, the process and picking of a running mate by a presidential candidate is a step to understanding the capacity of a candidate and his capability to do the job,” the PDP candidate said.
Reacting, Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, said it is pathetic for the PDP to utter such.
Rahman, in an interview with BBC, said that the PDP ought to focus more on resolving its internal crisis.
“The PDP should pay attention to resolving their internal crisis, they failed to fulfill all their internal promises.
“They should stop the propaganda campaign on Muslim-Muslim ticket, amongst others,” Rahman said.
