Following the qualification of Nigeria’s women basketball team, D’Tigress for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics game, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has congratulated the team for picking the ticket in a tough group comprising USA, Serbia and Mozambique .
D’Tigress secured the ticket after the United States whitewashed Mozambique 124 points to 39. Prior to the game between the United States and Mozambique, D’Tigress had lost their second game in the qualifiers to host, Serbia by 64 to 70 points, but qualification was sealed following the United States win.
Reacting to Nigeria’s qualification, FIBA wrote on Twitter: “With USA winning against Mozambique, Nigeria are now qualified for the Tokyo2020 Olympics!!
“Congratulations.”
The Otis Hughley-led side will now be making a return to the Olympic after making their debut at the Athens 2004 games.
Also, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) president, Musa Ahmadu-Kida, said, “We thank the President for his fatherly role and support all through this journey to book an Olympic games ticket. The minister also played a major role through his timely interventions, encouragement and the keen interest he developed towards basketball in Nigeria since assuming office.”
