Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has been granted compassionate leave by the club following series of worrying Facebook posts about his family troubles
He has already been ruled out of Sunday’s final game of the season against Everton and has also been given permission to miss the post-season tour to Malaysia and Australia.
Writing on Facebook last night, he said: “Many times I wanted to give up. Ask my sister Iyabo Adebayor how many times I have called and was ready to commit suicide? I kept these stories for years… But If I die, no one would know my story, no one would learn from it.”
The 31-year-old was widely expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer. His compassionate leave might mean he has already played his last game for the club.
Alternatively, Spurs may feel they have a duty of care towards Adebayor and his current situation might result in his time at the club being extended.
The Daily Mirror reports that the north London club will give their centre-forward as long as he needs to resolve his personal problems.
