US President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday night to rebuke UK Prime Minster Theresa May for her rare criticism of the president, who had retweeted a series of posts from an ultranationalist British group accusing Muslims of indiscriminate violence.
In the tweet, Trump told May, “don’t focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!”
Although, in a major gaff, Trump tweeted at the FAKE Theresa May! The UK Prime Minister’s verified handle is @theresa_may
Earlier in the day, Trump retweeted some videos originally posted by the deputy leader of far-right Britain First.
But a strong rebuke came from Downing Street as the British prime minister’s, spokesman said it was “wrong for the president to have done this”.
With this development, the political romance between May and Trump may have lost some steam.
May had struck a strong relationship with Trump partly in the hope of a rapid post-Brexit trade deal.
