Science Envoy to the US State Department, Dr Daniel Kammen, has resigned from his job over President Donald Trump’s comments in response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Kammen, a professor of energy at the University of California-Berkeley, cited a variety of reasons including Mr Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, an accord signed by nearly 200 countries in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help poorer countries adapt to an already-changed planet.
Mr Kammen posted his resignation letter on Twitter. The first letters of each paragraph read: “IMPEACH,” and it has been interpreted to convey his stand on Trump’s presidency.
