Twitter, has suspended Boko Haram’s account, @Alurwa_Alwuthqa. The handle which was registered last week in a manner similar to that of the Islamic State (IS), had been used to announce Boko Haram’s capture of Monguno, Borno State. It was also used to display pictures of child jihadists.
Twitter rules prohibits “specific threats of violence against others.” and condemns abuse or harassment, such as “if the sole purpose of the account is to send abusive messages to others.”
Somalia’s terrorist group, al-Shabaab, once had Twitter accounts, but they were suspended after they used the site to claim responsibility for the September 2013 attack on the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.
