Two Catholic Priests, Rev. Fr. Franklyn Odiaka, the Parish Priest of Catholic Church of Assumption (Zappa Parish), Asaba and his friend, Rev. Fr. Moses, were on Friday morning kidnapped at Obior in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Newspeakonline learnt that the two priests were on their way back from a ceremony in honour of the Bishop of Issele-Uku Diocese, Most Rev. (Dr.) Michael Elue, when they were intercepted by gunmen on the road.
One of the parishioners who spoke to Newspeakonline on condition of anonymity, said parishioners of Assumption Catholic Church have been urged to pray for the release of the priests.
An unconfirmed report said the kidnappers had contacted the diocese, requesting a ransom of N40 million.
It would be recalled that two weeks ago, reports had it that hoodlums broke into the church and stole some money from the parish treasury.
The State Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Celestina Kalu confirmed the incident and assured that the police were working on freeing the clergies and apprehending the kidnappers.
