Ride-hailing giant, Uber, has launched its first bike-hailing service in Nigeria, which will be operated in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Uber’s country manager, Tope Akinwumi.
The firm said the ‘okada’ rides would be available from as low as N100, adding that the price passengers will pay would be determined by the distance.
According to Akinwumi, there is a need to continue to provide solutions for transportation and mobility and it is for this reason that the motorcycle service was launched.
“As we recover, we know we need to continue to offer solutions that respond to consumers who are looking for smart mobility solutions, while providing new revenue streams and earning opportunities for drivers,” he said.
With the latest development, Uber joins Bolt, formerly known as Taxify, in launching bike-hailing service in Ibadan.
Ibadan is the largest city in West Africa and the second largest on the African continent behind Cairo, in Egypt.
Uber has been active in Nigeria for about eight years, and it is operating in five cities including Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Port Harcourt.
