The Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan (UI), has explained the rationale behind its annual programme, tagged, Dean’s Prize and Award giving ceremony.
The second edition of the Dean’s Prize and Award giving ceremony held at the institution on Friday.
The event was attended by the vice chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale; former vice chancellor, Professor Idowu Olayinka; deans from other faculties, heads of departments and students.
At the event, 33 students were rewarded for their outstanding performances while seven lecturers were also rewarded for their outstanding performances.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Bodunrin Oguntade, Group HR Director, Jotna Group.
Speaking, the dean of the faculty, Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, noted that the faculty took the decision to organise tha event in order to motivate the students and the lecturers.
“Today, we had the second edition of the Dean’s Prize and Award ceremony, an eventful programme. Thirty three students from 11 programmes were given prizes and certificates for their outstanding performance in their various levels. Each of the students got N50,000 each and a certificate to back it up.
“We also had a prize for the best student in one of the courses taught in one of the departments in the faculty. The award was presented to the best student in the course.
“Outstanding lecturers from the category of assistant lecturer to senior lecturer as well as the most outstanding among them were rewarded for their outstanding performance. We thank God that the programmes was successful.
“It is a programme meant to motivate our students and even our academic colleagues to put in their best. Seven lecturers were given the prizes, but one had the prize of the most outstanding,” he said.
One of the outstanding students, Oyindasola Adams, in her remarks, lauded the faculty for the initiative.
She encouraged other students to put in their best.
“I am a 400 level student of educational management. I feel very happy, this is a reward for academic excellence. After working very hard, I am happy that the hardwork is rewarded.
“I will say that everyone should put in the work, one day it will pay off. Everyone should strive for academic excellence. School is not a scam,” she said.
