Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was in a closed-door meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his Abeokuta Hilltop residence, Ogun State, on Friday.
The meeting had in attendance Senators Andy Uba, Danjuma Goje, Ahmed Yerima, Tayo Alasoadura and a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party and former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Former Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Kawu Baraje was also in attendance.
Saraki who spoke to journalists after the two hour meeting said they had come to pay Obasanjo homage, seek his advice and blessing because of his immense value to the country.
His words: “I am here with some of my colleagues to pay homage to him, to seek his advice, to get his blessing and also to consult.
“We all know President Obasanjo’s value to this country and we are here to tap from his wisdom, knowledge and experience.”
However, Premium Times quoted a source close to the meeting as saying that Saraki was actually in Abeokuta to beg Mr. Obasanjo to reconcile him with President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Saraki had reportedly lamented to Obasanjo that although the party leaders have stated that they have accepted his emergence, there was “complete communication breakdown between him, the president and the party”, owing to the circumstances in which he emerged Senate President.
Obasanjo reportedly promised to do his best to “ensure communication between all parties”.
