No fewer than eight people, including policemen have been reportedly killed in Oojo area of Ibadan, as an #EndSARS protest turned bloody.
It was learnt that the protest was going on peacefully before some hoodlums hijacked it and started throwing objects such as stones and bottles at the Oojo police station. The policemen allegedly open fire on the protesters, killing at least two people in the process.
Sporadic gunshots rent the air for almost an hour which made people scampered for safety.
It was gathered that after normalcy was briefly restored, the hoodlums again gathered and burnt down the police station.Also, 10 cars were allegedly burnt when the mob attacked the Police station.
An eye witness, Deji Akinwande, who spoke with Newspeakonline, said: “The incident started when a Police officer shot one of the protesters in the leg, and this made the youth to lynch the Police officers and thereafter the station was burnt, together with some of the cars in the premises of the station.So the Police in retaliation shot some of the mob.”
Some residents of Ojoo lamented the excesses of the police officers in the area, saying that the officers have passed their boundaries on numerous occasions.
