Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal has upheld the election of the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the winner of March 9 and 23, governorship election in the state.
The tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kabir Abba Yusuf.
Delivering judgement on the issue of the election being inconclusive on Wednesday, the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Shamaki, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had authority to cancel elections where there was crisis and or declare an election inconclusive.
According to Justice Shamaki, there was no enough ground to grant the request of the PDP, hence, the need to dismiss its prayers and that of its candidate.
She also said that INEC as a constituted authority has the authority to issue a certificate of return to the governor, having won the March 23, re-run election.
Reacting to the judgment, the PDP Chairman in the state, Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, said the party will study the judgment first before deciding on the next line of action.
He stated however that they may likely appeal against the judgment after all necessary steps would have been taken.
