Today is another Valentine’s Day. It’s lovers’ day and love, they say makes the world go round.
It is another February 14. Love is hanging in the air; you can smell it. It is a global love day and the story dates back to history.
Already, people are exchanging cards, candy, gifts or flowers with their special “valentine.”
Social media sites- Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are going viral with messages of undying love for each other by lovers but what are Nigerians really saying about the day.
Newspeakonline sought the views of some Nigerians about Valentine’s day. See their responses below;
Ikeoluwa Okeniyi Valentine’s day is an expression of affection, especially romantic affection, usually in the form of greeting card, gift, or message given the object of one’s affection, especially on February 14th.
With the above definition, I agree with the fact that valentine isn’t a bad thing at all. It is a day dedicated to lovers to celebrate themselves, prove their love and affection for each other without any negativity involved.
You know, many lovers get so busy everyday and they’ve had little or no time at all to share with each other their bond, what they still love between themselves and what they feel isn’t right that needs to be worked upon in the relationship. Valentine day makes this easy, brings them together and they get to know the excesses they need to act upon.
The whole world has turned upside down whereas most people have abused the so-called day and instead of sharing love in place of gifts and profession of their love, they see it as an avenue for gatherings that doesn’t define the word and some go to the extent of getting so intimate without any feeling of affection whatsoever which ought not to be.
My conclusion is that Valentine is good.

Valentine’s Day is a day for exchanging gifts among loved ones, not only between couples but also between friends, relatives, church members and even colleagues at work.
I do not believe that it’s a day of showing love cause love is to be shown to one another every day.

February 14, well known as Valentine’s day is a day we feel free to show love and express our feelings. I once bought a gift for a friend randomly and my sis was like “what’s the occasion”. But as it’s Valentine, I bought things for quite a lot of people knowing there will be limited questions.I even noted a few with the expression “I Love You.” Many take Val to be a day to show love to one special person or relationship partner… But personally, I think it’s a day to openly love everyone. Funny enough, I didn’t get anything for the guy I like.

Valentine’s day means a day to show love or express ones affection to one another. I see it as a great opportunity to those who are too busy with work and so overwhelmed with it to take a break and seize the opportunity to show love to people around them and the less privileged. It’s a time, whereby you can go to orphanage home, spend time with them, together with your family and let them feel the love. You can also have a feast in your neighbourhood and catch fun together. if that is being done for a whole day, then it will go a long way in the life of people who are depressed thinking they are not loved.
But the world we are in now, everything has been misjudged. Valentine’s day is a day of love so I must get a boyfriend for myself so that we can go out, eat, exchange gift and get satisfied in bed. That one day, instead of making great impact in people’s life destroys life a lot. Especially lives of girls at adolescent stage.

February 14, known as ‘Valentine’s day’ is a special day. Some don’t care about it. It’s alright, no condemnation.I view Feb 14 as a unique day to show ‘love’ to those/somebody I love which could be my (parents, siblings, family relatives, husband/wife, fiance/ fiancee, other friends, neighbours etc).
So now may be I should ask myself, What is love?Who do I want to show love to?Before now what have I been showing to this person(s)?

I think Val is just a day where you spend time and share gifts with your special one.Though, some people take it way too far and do some libertine stuff.
Bottom line, Val is just a day dedicated to just sharing of gifts and spending time with loved ones. Not that we don’t do that on other days, but it is what it is.

I just see it as a day that has been picked to celebrate love even though not as originally initiated. It has been bastardised. But then celebrating it with good intentions and actions is not bad and not celebrating it in sin either.
Emmanuel I don’t have issues with persons celebrating February 14th, but rather how they celebrate it and the significance of it.
A lot of persons say it’s a day to show love but in my opinion, you don’t have to wait for a specific day to show or express your love.It ought to be expressed everyday.
And first of, God is love; ergo, all we do on that day, should be done in righteousness and not give room for more unrighteous acts as people have done in time past all in the name of Valentine…

I see 14th February as every other day. A lot of people see it as a period of love and all but love to me, should not be a seasonal thing. Every day of our lives is an opportunity to show love and empathy to our fellow humans.
But since it has been designated as a special day, there is a need to celebrate with Christ in view. The world doesn’t end on the 14th of February.
Oluwatobi Olaleye Valentine is regarded to be a day where lovers celebrate each other, share gifts and spend time together. It does not necessarily mean you and your spouse ,it can be among families, friends at place of work and church.

Valentine is just like a normal day on the calendar and people have misconception about the day as the day you show love but I am of the opinion that even if you want to show love, it can be any day and val day should not be taken advantage of.You can show love on Valentine’s day by calling someone you have not called for a long time, you can call the person, it is a way of showing love not necessary you buy gift that will put you in debt.
