In what appears to be an imitation of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s jibe, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, introduced Dapo Abiodun as the “Eleyi of Ogun State” at the party’s governorship mega, on Tuesday.
While introducing the Ogun State Governor, Fayemi said he was told that he did not introduce Abiodun properly.
Immediately after Fayemi’s comment, the APC chieftains standing on the podium, including Abiodun, started laughing.
“I have just been informed that I did not introduce Governor Dapo Abiodun properly as the Eleyi of Ogun State,” Fayemi said.
The governorship rally was attended by Lagos Tinubu; APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, APC governors and party chieftains.
The title,’ Eleyi,’ became popular on social media after Tinubu described Abiodun as “eleyi” while addressing APC delegates in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in the build-up to the party’s presidential primary.
In Yoruba language, the word “eleyi” means “this one” in English and it is sometimes used in a derogatory manner in terms of a person’s worth.
Tinubu had said without his support, Abiodun would not have been governor of Ogun State.
At the rally, Tinubu also labelled Biodun Oyebanji, the APC governorship candidate in Ekiti State as the “Emi Lokan of Ekiti” who would perform beyond the expectation of his people.
The “Emi Lokan” slogan had gone viral after Tinubu told Ogun State delegates in the building up to the APC presidential primary that it is his turn to be the president of the country.
