Pope Francis I, 79, missed a step and fell down during a mass in Krakow, Poland. He continued the mass immediately he was helped to his feet by altar servers.
The incident happened during a mass at the Jasna Gora monastery, considered Poland’s holiest Catholic shrine. He fell down at the foot of the altar, after overlooked a step.
The visit to Poland, the home country of Pope John Paul II, was Pope Francis’ first to eastern Europe. The Argentine pontiff was visiting Poland to mark 1,050 years of the country adopting Christianity.
In his sermon, he told a gathering of several hundreds to be more compassionate to migrant individuals and families.
He said:
“A merciful heart opens up to welcome refugees and migrants.”
