New York police announced early Monday that they are seeking Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, in connection to the explosion over the weekend that left 29 people injured in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. Authorities asked for the public’s help in finding Rahami.
According to the FBI, Rahami is a naturalized citizen of Afghan descent. Rahami, whose last known address was in Elizabeth, N.J., is 5-foot-6 and weighs 200 pounds, the FBI said, with brown hair, brown eyes and brown facial hair. He was born on Jan. 23, 1988, in Afghanistan.
Authorities said Rahami should be considered dangerous.
“I want to be very clear that this individual could be armed and dangerous,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday morning, the New York Times reported. “Anyone seeing him should call 911 immediately.”
The announcement that police were seeking Rahami came as authorities continued to investigate whether other explosive devices found in New Jersey were connected to the Chelsea explosion. Early Monday, a suspicious device found near a train station in Elizabeth, N.J. exploded while a bomb squad was trying to disarm it with a robot.
