The Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency(OYSHIA), Dr Sola Akande, has explained why the agency can’t increase its premium now.
He stated that the agency is not yet ready to change how it was able to get people to buy into the scheme.
“We don’t want to change how we were able to get the belief of people into the scheme and we also realised that with N8,000, which is the premium, we have not done half of the state,” he said.
Akande also said that people with pre-existing condition has been one of the major challenges for the agency because the cost of care is different and a bit high.
“We want to bring as many people into the scheme; people with pre-existing condition has been one of our challenges. Some don’t come out clean and we don’t want to send them back.
“The cost of care for these kind of people is different because we will do a co-payment which will pay the enrollee at the end of the day,” he added.
The OYSHIA boss maintained that every scheme has its challenges, adding that the agency is looking into how to tackle all the issues confronting it.
