The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has explained the rationale behind the sudden disappearance of the newly launched e-Naira speed wallet from Google Play Store.
Director of Corporate Communications of the apex bank, Osita Nwanisobi, gave the explanation on Thursday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
He was speaking at a CBN Fair for the South East geopolitical zone, which held simultaneously in Ebonyi and Abịa States.
While noting that the app’s disappearance was only temporary, Nwanisobi said it was undergoing an important upgrade aimed at tackling glitches noticed since its launch.
The e-Naira Speed Wallet app had gone missing from the Google Play Store on Wednesday after its launch on Monday.
Before it disappeared, the app had been downloaded by over 100,000 persons.
A quick search on Google Play store indicated absence of the e-Naira Speed Wallet app but the eNaira Speed Merchant wallet app is still available for download on android.
Nwanisobi said the app is expected to be back on Thursday after the upgrade.
He assured that the app is well secured as it relied on encryption technology with two factor verification which made it difficult to be bridged.
Nwanisobi said Nigerians are partly responsible for the glitches noticed which he claimed contributed to the temporary disappearance of the app.
According to him, many Nigerians’ inability to input their correct details while signing up on the app contributed to the glitches.
