Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, met with Senator Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, on Tuesday night.
The BoT had written to Wike in August, seeking a meeting to resolve the lingering crisis in the party, especially in Rivers State, days after meeting with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
However, journalists were barred from the meeting, which lasted into the late hours of the night.
Wike has been at loggerheads with Fubara over the control of the party’s structure in the state, prompting the minister to say he will never support the governor again in his political life.
The PDP governors had recently tagged the former Rivers governor a “mole” in the party, a claim the minister rejected in a recent television interview.
However, the acting national chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, recently handed over the party’s structure in Rivers State to Wike. With the action of the NWC, Wike has become the party’s leader in Rivers, contrary to the tradition that makes governors the leaders of the party in states.
