The Attorney General of Cross River State has ordered the immediate prosecution of the suspects that gang-raped a lady at gunpoint in the presence of her husband in Okuni community-Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
The five-man gang on November 6, 2017, invaded a farm in the community, stole bags of cocoa and gang-raped the wife of one of the farmers at gunpoint while her husband was tied to a tree to watch the evil act.
Recall that last month, no fewer than 1000 women from the community protested naked and demanded justice for the victim. The women reportedly described the incident as barbaric.
Reports said the protest was sparked by the arrest of one of the assailants, who was later released on bail without adequate sanction by the Ikom police division.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong and the DG of the state’s Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu, last Wednesday, visited the victim and told her that the culprits have been rearrested and will be charged to court immediately for prosecution.
