Lecturers at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, have embarked on an indefinite strike to protest against the non-payment of allowances and July salaries.
Chairman of ASUP, Yabatech chapter, Adeyemi Aromolaran said that an indefinite strike has inevitably begun following the school management’s refusal to meet their demands.
Due to this development, non-academic staff have also served a strike notice, Leadership Newspaper reports.
The report said other labour unions in the institution gave the college management 24 hours to pay back the deductions from their salary or face mass action.
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Senior Staff Union of Polytechnics and the Non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics came out in their numbers to hold a special congress, it added.
The workers are displeased with the school management’s non payment of allowances that ought to have been paid along with their July salaries. The allowances include union dues, field trip allowance, cooperative dues among others.
