Justice Ahmed Mohammed of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday threatened to be sentence officials of Young Democratic Party (YDP) to prison if they fail to retract a statement credited to them that the court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the March 28 elections.
The judge gave the party officials 24 hours to retract the statement or face imprisonment.
Following a false claim by the party officials at a press conference that the court, on March 4, 2015, ordered INEC to shift the 2015 elections in order to accommodate the party in the polls, the judge had, on March 12, summoned the party to appear before him based on the claim.
Consequently, the judge at the resumed hearing of the matter on Monday, ordered the party to call a world press conference within 24 hours and retract the statement and also file an affidavit in court to that order.
Justice Mohammed added that failure of the party to do so, the court would not hesitate to commit all officers of the party to prison.
The court later adjourned till March 31 for hearing of reports of the complaints.
