Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has disclosed that the Federal Government plans to remove 25 universities, teaching hospitals, and some underserved rural areas across the country from the national grid and power them with solar.
The minister made the disclosure over the weekend at an event held in his honour in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to Adelabu, the initiative is designed to address the persisting power challenge in the country, provide a reliable and sustainable source of electricity and ensure uninterrupted operations in these critical facilities.
“It is also in line with the government’s rural electrification policy aimed at ensuring economic development by providing power through renewable energy sources,” the minister said.
He added that investment in power transmission and distribution infrastructure would be increased to reduce power loss before reaching end users.
