Coalition for a Better Nigeria, a coalition of pro–democracy groups, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to appoint one of their own, Comrade Awa Bamiji as Minister of Youth.
The coalition stated this at the 8th day Fidau Prayer of late Madam Rafatu Agbeke Oyebamiji, the mother of the activist, in Ibadan.
The various civil society organisations at the event described Awa as an outstanding youth leader, who has been consistent with his countless mass mobilisation projects, which are pro-democracy in nature over the last three decades.
They added that the activist is a loyal, dedicated and progressive-minded person, assuring the president that he will enjoy Awa’s selflessness and dedication if he appoints him.
Meanwhile, tributes have continued to pour in from around the globe over the demise of the 98-year-old Madam Rafatu Agbeke Oyebamiji, the matriach of Oyebamiji family.
Those who have sent in their condolence messages include Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo (SAN); Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, Ambassador Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosumu, Nike Ransome-Kuti, Development Agenda of Western Nigeria (DAWN), Gbenga Aregbesola among others.
I honestly have not known any Nigerian with the kind of dedication and commitment Mr Awa Bamiji carrys when it comes to issues relating to youth advancement. If I should write a book on his activities going back to 2001 when I first met him at the Lagos State Governor’s office then under Asiwaju I will go beyond 1000 pages trying to describe him. Awa, I call him comrade very calm and sound mentally and one thing you can’t take away from him is that he is always very calm but loaded upstairs. No doubt in my mind if he is made minister for youth development it will open up things for the betterment of the Nigerian youths across the country.
Best of luck my brother and comrade.
