Five people were reportedly killed in Ilesa town, Osun State, following violent clashes between two rival cult groups.
It was gathered that the clashes occurred in Ifofin, Iloro, brewery and Idasa areas, all within Ilesa metropolis, on Monday evening.
It was also learnt that the clashes involved a cult group called ‘Aye’ and a rival group named ‘Eiye.’
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola.
The police appealed for calm and urged members of the public to go about their businesses without fear.
According to the statement, more operatives had been deployed to the affected areas to stop further escalation of the clashes.
