Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has sworn- in the newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors of the 33 local government areas (LGA) in the state.
The oath of office and allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Iyabo Yerima, at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Friday.
Speaking after the swearing-in, Makinde said there is no room for them to fail, adding that they should govern as enshrined in the constitution of the country.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Barr Bayo Lawal, urged the newly inaugurated council executive to prioritise the needs and aspirations of their people with a view to deliver good governance.
He tasked them to focus on people oriented programmes and policies that will better the lives of the people.
Makinde noted that the electoral process that led to their emergence was credible, free and fair, urging them to uphold democratic values, rule of law in their various councils such that their tenures would be marked by unprecedented grassroots development.
The governor advised the newly inaugurated council executive to work assiduously in building their respective council areas.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Segun Olayiwola, said the just concluded local government election affirmed the commitment of the present administration in Oyo State to fairness, transparency and accountability.
The commissioner appreciated the governor for his unwavering commitment and vision to make the state stand out among her peers.
He urged the newly sworn-in executive to work hand in hand, utilise their expertise and foster collaboration to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every nooks and crannies of their respective local governments.
