The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria(VON), Osita Okechukwu, over alleged conspiracy, abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N1.3billion.
It was gathered that the VON DG, who arrived at the headquarters of the anti-graft agency in Abuja at about 1:32pm to honour an invitation, was quizzed by the detectives of the commission.
The spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed Okechukwu’s detention to newsmen on Saturday night. He was still being detained as ofthe time of filing this report.
When asked whether he would be released on Saturday night, Uwujaren declined further comments.
Okechukwu, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) a vocal supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, had on several occasions clashed with some party chieftains over alleged anomaly within the party.
He was apppointed VON DG in 2016.
