Oyo State Government has disclosed that it will launch a software for easy verification of pensioners.
Executive Chairman, Oyo State Pensions Board, Tunji Adekunle, made the disclosure during a meeting with pensioners at the Pensioners’ House, Onireke, Ibadan.
He explained the software would enable pensioners to confirm their living status from the comfort of their homes using either a smartphone or a computer.
Adekunle said the software would stop the physical verification the pensioners had been doing for years, thus, reducing the stress of travelling long distances.
The chairman explained that the state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, was one of the first governors that started the payment of wage award to civil servants and pensioners in their states.
He said the government would not relent in its pursuit to improve life for its retirees, adding that it placed premium on the welfare and wellbeing of its pensioners.
Adekunle further explained that the Pensions’ Board has put in place lots of programmes that will benefit the senior citizens in the state.
He urged the pensioners to be weary of fraudsters and desist from engaging unfamiliar faces to do their paperwork for them, stressing that the state government will continue to prioritise the welfare of senior citizens in the state.
Earlier, the Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in Oyo State, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, commended the state governor for prioritizlsing the welfare of pensioners in the state.
The meeting had in attendance Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Pensioners Board, Mrs Modupe Adeleye, directors from the board and executive members of the union.
