The Edo State Police Command, says it had deposited 10 unidentified corpses found at Ibillo-Lampese, in Akoko Edo Local Goverment Area of the state at the Ibillo General Hospital Mortuary for “preservation and forensic investigation.”
Newspeakonline had earlier reported that the corpses were discovered around Ibillo-Lampese, along the Lagos-Abuja road, by some farmers, who were going to their farms on Tuesday morning.
The farmers alerted some vigilantes who were said to have combed the area and discovered more bodies.
However, a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said forensic investigation of the bodies has commented.
“This is to inform the general public that through a credible intelligence the Operatives of Ibillo Divisional Headquarters of Edo State Police Command in collaboration with the vigilante group and the hunters on Tuesday, 1st of November, 2022 at about 1100hrs, discovered ten male dead bodies along a bush path by Ibillo- Lampese Road, Lagos – Abuja Expressway.
“The Divisional Police Officer, Ibillo Division, revealed that he was in his office when he received the information that some dead bodies were sighted at the aforementioned location and he immediately mobilised his operatives, vigilante group and the hunters to the scene where they met the bodies between the ages of 23 to 25 years.
“During the preliminary investigation, photographs of the dead bodies were taken, the bodies were duly searched and examined but there was no noticeable mark of violence or materials that may lead to identifying the dead bodies. Investigation was also extended to the Fulani/Hausa communities and the indigenous communities who came, examined the corpses and declared that the dead bodies were not natives.
“The dead bodies have since been deposited at the Ibillo General Hospital Mortuary for preservation and forensic investigation.
“To this end, the Commissioner Of Police Edo State Command, CP Mohammed Dankwara, appeals to any one with useful information that may lead to uncovering the cause of death of the ten young men and also that could lead to the possible arrest of the suspects to call in,” the statement read.
