The lawmaker representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has commiserated with the traders at Sango market in Ibadan,Oyo State, following the devastating inferno that engulfed the market.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Akeem Abas, Alli expressed deep sadness and empathised with the affected traders during this difficult time.
The inferno, believed to have been caused by an electric spark, ravaged over 20 shops in the market and destroyed goods worth millions of naira, leaving the affected traders in a state of despair and loss.
The lawmaker acknowledged the devastating impact of this incident on the livelihood and businesses of these traders who have worked tirelessly to provide for their families, and contribute to the economic growth of the city.
He emphasised the need for prompt action and support from relevant authorities to assist the affected traders in recovering from the tragic event.
Alli called on the Oyo State Government, market leaders, and well-meaning individuals to provide immediate relief and assistance to the affected traders.
He urged government and individuals to assist the traders financially, reconstuct the affected shops, and provide necessary resources to help them rebuild their businesses.
The lawmaker expressed concern over the recent spate of fire incidents in markets and institutions in Ibadan.
Alli urged relevant agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the causes of these fire outbreaks and take necessary measures to prevent future occurrence.
Alli reiterated the importance of fire safety, calling on the authorities to prioritise preventive measures to safeguard the lives and property of citizens in Ibadan and Oyo State
