President Bola Tinubu has described the death of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, as shocking and distressing.
Wigwe died alongside five others including his wife, Chizoba, son, Chizi and the former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Plc, Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, in a helicopter crash in California, United States, on Friday night.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Sunday, said the death of the two exceptional Nigerian business leaders is shocking and beyond comprehension.
“After receiving an official confirmation of events, President Bola Tinubu receives with shock and deep distress the news of the passing of Mr. Herbert Wigwe, top banker and entrepreneur, and Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, OFR, former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Plc, along with members of the Wigwe family,” the statement read.
Tinubu described the death of these exceptional Nigerian business leaders as “an overwhelming tragedy that is shocking beyond comprehension.”
The president condoled with the families of Wigwe and Ogunbanjo, the business community, and all those impacted by this harrowing incident.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed and asked God Almighty to comfort the multitude of Nigerians who are grieving as well as the families of the deceased.
