President Bola Tinubu on Monday, Jube 19, appointed Major General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Lagbaja, who hails from Ilobu, in Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State, replaced Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021.

Until his appointment as COAS, Lagbaja was the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division of the Nigeria Army, Kaduna, since August 2022.

Lagbaja was born on February 28, 1968, and attended Local Authority Teachers College Demonstration School, Osogbo between 1973 and 1979.

He proceeded to St Charles Grammar School, Osogbo from 1979 to 1984. He then went to The Polytechnic, Ibadan, between 1984 and 1986. He obtained West African School Certificate (Advanced Level).

On September 12, 1987, he was admitted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as a member of the 39th Regular Course, and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 19, 1992.
