Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have attacked the residence of former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and Labour Party candidate in the July 16 governorship election in Osun State, Hon. Lasun Yusuf, located in Ilobu, Osun State.
In a tweet on Monday, Yusuf said the armed men shot randomly at his residence.
Yusuf, however, did not say if any person was shot or whether properties were destroyed in the shooting.
“Just in: gun men in uniforms are presently in my residence shooting sporadically,” he wrote.
Five hours later, Yusuf in another tweet, wrote: “And (remember) when the disbelievers plotted against you to imprison you, or to kill you, or to expel you (from your home, Makkah); they were plotting and Allah too was plotting, and Allah is the best of plotters. Quran 8 verse 30.”
Also, Wole Oladimeji, the media aide to Yusuff, who confirmed the attack in a statement, said the ex-deputy speaker and members of his family had returned home to celebrate the Eid Kabir festival.
He said they were all in the house when the attackers struck in the early hours of Monday.
According to Oladimeji, “when the attackers could not gain entrance into the building, they fired shots from outside the premises, aiming at the upper floor of the storey building where bedrooms are, and shattered the aluminum windows.”
He added that no casualty was recorded during the attack.
The development comes few hours after Yusuf participated in the governorship debate organised by Channels Television.
While speaking at the debate, Yusuf said state police is inevitable if security challenges must be addressed.
