The Okanlomo of Ibadan, Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, has condoled with the immediate family, friends, associates, Olubadan-in-Council, Oyo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Oyo State Government and the entire sons and daughters of Ibadan land over the passing of Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Lekan Balogun.
In a statement, Akanbi noted that he shared fond memories with a man, who not only led but also deeply influenced and inspired.
Describing Oba Balogun as a family, Akanbi reminisced about their early acquaintance, emphasising the late monarch’s remarkable eloquence and command of the English Language.
“Oba Lekan Balogun’s spoken English, reminiscent of the British Royal Family’s mastery, captivated all who heard him, leaving an enduring impression on those privileged to encounter him.
“In addition to his linguistic prowess, the late Olubadan was a fashion icon, effortlessly exuding elegance that distinguished him. His fashion choices showcased a refined sense of style and sophistication, solidifying his position as a cultural luminary within the community.
“However, it was not just Oba Lekan Balogun’s outward appearance that earned admiration; his unwavering bravery and distinctive leadership qualities were equally esteemed. Throughout his reign, he displayed a rare combination of resilience and sagacity, guiding Ibadan land with unwavering determination and foresight. His brilliance was evident in every decision, garnering him the steadfast respect and admiration of his constituents.
“The passing of Oba Balogun leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, yet his memory will forever be treasured as a source of inspiration and guidance for future generations. As Ibadan land mourns the departure of a titan, the spirit of Oba Balogun will continue to resonate, a testament to the lasting impact of his extraordinary life.
