Stakeholders in Ibadan land have commended the Aare Musulumi of Yoruba land, Edo and Delta States, Alh Dauda Akinola, for honouring the process that produced Alhaja Saratu Konibaje as the Iyaloja General of Oyo State.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the leaders of Oyo State Market Council as well as Coordinator, Ibadan Compound Peace Initiative (ICPI), Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade, said residents of Ibadan and Oyo State at large are happy with Akinola for abiding with the process that produced Konibaje, adding that due process was followed in her emergence.
The statement appreciated Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for giving market men and women the free hand to democratically elect the Iyaloja General.
They also hailed the former President-General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero, and Babaloja of Oyo State, Alhaji Yekini Abass, for their efforts in ensuring that due process was followed in the Iyaloja General of Oyo State tussle.
The stakeholders equally thanked all those who have helped to broker peace over the Iyaloja General tussle, including the leadership of CCII, Alhaja Iyadunni, Mogaji Abass Oloko, Oyo State Markert leaders and others for their patience and perseverance .
“The Aare of Ibadan land, Alhaji Dauda Akinola, who now addresses Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje as the Iyaloja General of Oyo State, was seen with the Iyaloja at the Ramadan lecture of former deputy governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, in which Governor Seyi Makinde was also in attendance.
“The governor had earlier visited Oloye Adebayo Oyero, who was one of those who brokered the peace meeting at Ibadan House, Oke Aremo.
“Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje had also visited the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Excellency, Chief Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, for a special Iftar, as well as Chief Imam of Ibadan land and Grand Imam of Oyo State.
“The Chief Imam, who prayed for a successful tenure for Alhaja konibaje equally agreed that Islam encourages equity, fairness, justice and due process.
“We appreciate Baba Oyero for insisting on following the position of people of Ibadan and Oyo State over the Iyaloja General tussle. The due process is not an Ibadan project, but for the good of all.
“Everybody in Oyo State keyed into the due process, which has nothing to do with tribalism or sentiments,” the statement said.
The stakeholders appealed to Alhaja Abeo Nurudeen to respect the decision of market men and women in the state, who elected Konibaje as the Iyaloja General.
“Abeo Nurudeen should stop parading herself as the Iyaloja General of Oyo State. The issue of Iyaloja General has been settled,” it added.
