The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West has reacted to a statement purportedly issued by the Zonal Secretary of the party, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, who accused Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde of deceiving the party in the South West.
A statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the party in the zone, Chief Sanya Atofarati, and made available to the newsmen on Sunday, said expression of the Zonal Secretary is his personal opinion and does not represent the collective voice of the South West Executives of the party.
According to Atofarati, there was nowhere the governor of Oyo State called anybody, be it private or official to vote against the PDP presidential candidate during the last presidential and national assembly elections.
“The trend of election of February 25 throughout the country is a clear indication that there were many governors who lost their domains and this applies to other states and not only Oyo State. It cuts across all major political parties.
“This shows that the electorate are becoming wiser and should not be taken for granted, based on religious and ethnic bigotry.
“The Presidential candidate of our party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has followed the constitutional process on all issues arising from the February 25 general election in the law court and we are very positive and hoping to claim our mandate back.
“The South West Zonal Executives hereby distanced itself from the purported press interview by the Zonal Secretary and categorized the same as his personal opinion which is his fundamental human rights,” Atofarati said.
