An Akure-based socialite and entrepreneur, Sesan Adelabu, popularly known as Emirate, has reportedly committed suicide after killing his wife, Bolu, at their residence in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The socialite was said to have committed suicide by drinking an insecticide after he machetted his wife to death at their Alagbaka GRA residence.
It was gathered that the wife’s lifeless body was left on her matrimonial bed while the remains of her husband was found inside his toilet after drinking the insecticide.
Adelabu and his wife, it was learnt, have not been on good terms recently.
Adelabu, according to reports, has a chain of business investments including petrol stations in Akure.
The corpses of the couple have been deposited at the Akure General hospital morgue.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, said that the socialite murdered the wife and thereafter committed suicide by drinking sniper.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday, Odunlami added that the Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, has ordered the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.
“On the 9th of February, 2024 , a distress call was received by the police of A’ Division Akure, by men of the Special Protection Unit.
“The officer attached to the deceased in his house at Alagbaka area in Akure, received a call from the deceased child around 6pm asking after his father, because he was not picking his calls.
“The policeman, while trying to inform his principal, discovered him face down and lifeless in the toilet while his wife’s body was found on the bed with multiple cuts suspected to be machete cuts on her head and face.
“An empty container of insecticide was also found at the-scene. Investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident and scene cordoned off to enable police do the needful,” she said.
