The Ondo Police State Command has said it had arrested an Islamic cleric, identified as Oluwafemi Idris, for allegedly being in possession of human body parts.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Abayomi Oladipo, in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Funmi Odunlami, said the command received an intel from a reliable source in January 2024, that Idris, popularly known as “Alfa” in his area, kept human parts in his home and intends to use them for ritual purposes.
Oladipo said the police swung into action and apprehended the suspect, noting that human body parts including hands, three kidneys, three hearts, spine and tongue were found in his possession during a search on his apartment in Akoko.
“The suspect claimed he is an Islamic cleric and some of the human parts were supplied by his friend, an Alhaji who is also a cleric, and one Samuel Kutelu, while he supplied one Babatunde Kayode ( an Oluawo) 3 human heads.
“The said Oluawo and Babatunde Kayode have been arrested. Effort is on to arrest the other cleric who he claims sourced the human parts for him,” the CP said.
In a related development, operatives of the command also arrested a suspected notorious motorcycle snatcher in the state.
The police said a body allegedly killed by the motorcycle snatcher was recovered.
While being interrogated, the suspect was quoted to have said: “It was the work of the devil, I can’t explain because the deceased was my close friend. Truly, his bike is not the first bike I will ever snatch but I have never killed before.
“Even those that are not related to me, I snatched bike from them and I didn’t harm them, but this one is just a coincidence.”
Oladipo called on members of the public, particularly motorcycle riders, to be mindful of the types of persons they carry and the terrains they enter with their motorcycles, adding that the command is intensifying efforts to get everyone connected to the crime arrested and prosecuted.
