Relief has come the way of Oba Ghandi Olaoye, after an Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomoso granted his application for stay of execution of the judgement nullifying his selection and appointment as Soun of Ogbomoso pending the determination of his appeal.
Recall that an Oyo State Hogh Court had nullified Oba Olaoye’s selection and appointment as Soun over procedural flaw in his nomination.
But ruling on the application for stay of execution filed by Oba Olaoye on Monday, Justice Kareem Adedokun directed all the parties to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the appeal filed by Oba Olaoye and Oyo State Government.
Recall that Oba Olaoye was installed on September 8, 2023 by the kingmakers. However, his selection and installation was nullified on October 25, in a suit filed by Prince Kabir Olaoye, for breaching the nomination process of Soun chieftaincy declaration.
Dissatisfied with the judgement, the monarch and Oyo State Government, which approved his nomination, filed independent appeals, citing contradictions in the judgement in view of an earlier ruling on October 3, in which Justice Adedokun ruled that the process was right, proper and valid.
Meanwhile, Oba Olaoye, who has been out of the country as a result of the renovation ongoing at the palace, is expected to return anytime from now.
