Former Minister of Communications, Dr. Adebayo Shittu, has called on the people of Oyo State not to vote for Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that they should cast their vote for the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Teslim Folarin in the forthcoming governorship poll.
The former minister stated this at a news conference in Ibadan, on Wednesday.
Shittu, who is also the Director General Asiwaju Tinubu/Shettima Coalition for Good Governance (ATSCGG) also debunked the rumours making the rounds that the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had promised Makinde that he will support him to return as the state governor, saying “Asiwaju is a democrat to the core, we know him very well, he will never involve in anti-party activities.”
He noted that Makinde had neglected education and other sectors in the state, but he had spent N22 billion on Park Management System (PMS), which he said were busy promoting thuggery in the state.
Shittu called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) to as a matter of urgency put all necessary machineries in motion to rescue Oyo State from Makinde and make him accountable for the funds accrued to the state, particularly that of the 33 local government areas.
“Oyo State has always been governed by progressives. It was due to the disagreement among members of the APC in Oyo State, due to the outcome of the primary four years ago, which made many members to leave the party to join him. This is how Makinde became governor.
All the people, including some of us in the progressive fold and other people from other parties are no longer with him,” he said.
According to Shittu, “reliable information from the Revenue Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) indicated that N100 million is given to each of the 33 local government council in the state on a monthly basis, but Makinde is releasing 10 million monthly, which did not allow them to perform. Apart from this, he deducted N50 million from council accounts when he assumed office, which he promised to spend of health centers. As I am talking to you, he has not done anything. So we believe that EFCC must bring him to book.”
While thanking the people of the state for voting for APC in last Saturday’s presidential election, he called on other political parties, like Accord to join hands with the party to dislodge Makinde in the governorship election, saying “we are ready to enter into agreement with any party that is ready to join us. I promise, Senator Teslim Folarin will never disappoint you.”
