The Oluwo of Iwo, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has asked the Federal Government to establish more anti-graft agencies to complement the efforts of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other related offences (ICPC).
This was contained in a press statement issued by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem.
Oba Akanbi said the federal government needed to strengthen the anti-graft agencies and establish more.
He advised political parties to incorporate convincing anti-corruption programmes and appealed to the electorate to reject parties and candidates with no convincing programme for combating corruption. He said most politicians were Nigeria’s number one enemy as they only pursue positions to amass wealth.
His words “Nigeria need more anti-corruption agencies to arrest corruption in Nigeria. EFCC and ICPC is not enough, there are still more hidden cases. BVN has revealed just little. Nigeria need more
agencies that will fight and prosecute corruption that has dragged us so backward”
Oba Akanbi lauded the federal government for initiating cash and cashless anti-corruption programmes that has earned Nigeria more than #400 billion.
Reiterating his support for nailing corrupt public and civil servants, the monarch said: “It is insanity that prompts a man to steal billions while millions Nigerians are hungry. It is callousness and madness of the highest order. It is condemnable, inhuman, uncivilized and retrogressing.
He posited that corruption in Nigeria was deadlier than HIV/AIDS, saying it has killed and jeopardized many Nigerians who were direct and indirect victims of corruption.
Oba Akanbi condemned Nigerians especially the youth who promote corruption through subjective sycophancy of “polluted politicians milking our treasury at the country`s detriment”.
The monarch urged Nigerians to uphold the fight against the menace by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration for the interest of the country.
“Nigeria number one snag is corruption. It is the clog in the wheel of progress of the country. Remove corruption from Nigeria, you will see us growing younger and reclaiming our loss glory. Imagine a nation blessed with all resources but lagging behind owing to looting of our collective treasuries by some egocentric interest. Nothing will work fine when a soul stole what can feed a million souls”
“Corruption is the major snag to our existence in Nigeria, very destructive and stereotypically associated with Nigerians especially selfish servants calling themselves public servants. Arrest and bury it, you see us great again. We must support whoever preaches against the deadly menace. If we refuse to curtail it, it will consume us and we cease to exist. Corruption and its perpetrators are the first enemies of Nigeria” said Oluwo.
