National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, should be commended for accepting the job of reconciling agrieved members of the party.
The senator representing Oyo North District, Fatai Buhari, said this at the weekend while featuring on Southwest Political Circuit, a political programme on Ibadan-based Fresh FM.
He said Tinubu demonstrated uncommon maturity and leadership in reconciling with the Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wammako within few days of accepting the assignment from President Muhammadu Buhari.
Senator Buhari recalled that Tinubu was not in good terms as at the time of accepting the presidential assignment but that he immediately went to meet Wammako and Saraki to mend fences with them before starting the assignment.
Buhari admitted that he was apprehensive when Tinubu accepted the job owing to the personal issues.
He said: “For me, Asiwaju Tinubu should be commended for taking three important steps regarding his new assignment. First, he should be praised for accepting that assignment because it is not an easy one considering some past incidents. Two, he went to Sokoto to reconcile with former governor Aliyu Wammako and current governor, Aminu Tambuwa. Three, he also flew to Senate President Bukola Saraki to reconcile with him. Those steps are weighty and, therefore, should be commended. I was originally scared when he accepted the job. But with what he is doing, it is clear that the APC will wax stronger and go to the 2019 elections more united. He should be commended. He is succeeding gradually. He is experienced in politics and leadership. He is an astute politician.”
Buhari also confirmed his intention to contest as Oyo State governor in the 2019 election, vowing to make Oyo people happy if elected.
On agitations that the governorship slot be zoned to Oke-Ogun area of the state, Buhari said the progress of the state was more important than where the governor came from. According to him, only the most competent candidate should be elected as governor.
